Newbury Landscaping offers proper garden design across Newbury and West Berkshire — measured site surveys, scaled masterplans, planting plans and optional 3D visuals. The drawing stage is where a garden succeeds or fails: it is far cheaper to move a patio on paper than in the ground.

You can commission a design on its own, or roll it into a build with us. Either way the plan is yours to keep, priced separately and honestly.

What a garden design includes

Measured site survey

Boundaries, levels, drains, soil and sun path recorded properly. On Newbury's sloping chalk plots, the level survey alone prevents most expensive surprises.

Scaled masterplan

A to-scale layout of paving, lawns, beds, structures and levels — the document every quote and every trade works from.

Planting plan

Species chosen for alkaline chalk soil on RHS right-plant-right-place principles, drawn bed by bed with quantities and sizes.

3D visual option

For bigger projects, a 3D model of the finished garden — the quickest way for a household to agree on a design.

Why design matters more on West Berkshire plots

Two things make design earn its keep around Newbury. First, the ground: chalk drains fast and sits alkaline at pH 7.5–8, so a planting scheme lifted from a magazine simply dies here — the plan has to start from the soil. Second, the levels: from the villas above the Kennet & Avon canal to the village plots towards Lambourn, very few gardens are flat, and steps, terracing and retaining walls need working out before anyone prices anything.

A good plan also sequences the work. Hard landscaping first, drainage and cable runs buried before paving goes down, planting and lighting last — so nothing gets dug up twice. We work to BALI standards of workmanship throughout the build, and the design is written so any competent landscaper could build from it.
